A sorrowful and unusual tragedy has occurred at Bekawopa, a small community near Abrafo in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region, where two chainsaw operators lost their lives in a manner residents describe as both shocking and mysterious.
The deceased Yaw Asare, widely known as Tompuu and believed to be in his 50s, and Eric Teteh, in his 30s were said to be undertaking a timber-felling task when the incident unfolded. Witnesses recount that the pair were actively cutting down one tree when, without warning, a different tree nearby one that had not been touched or marked for cutting collapsed and fell directly on them.
Community members, puzzled by how an untouched tree could suddenly give way, have described the occurrence as strange, with some suggesting that spiritual forces may have played a role.
In keeping with local traditions, traditional authorities performed cleansing rituals at the site before the bodies were allowed to be moved. Police officers from the Jukwa District Command later conveyed the remains to the mortuary for preservation.
Investigators have commenced a probe to determine what might have caused the unexpected fall and to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
