Health workers in Donkorkrom have issued a stern ultimatum to the government, warning that they will abandon their posts unless urgent steps are taken to address the growing threat of armed robbery in the area.
In a powerful show of frustration, the health workers wearing red bands marched through the streets of Donkorkrom, protesting what they described as relentless and life-threatening attacks on their colleagues and families.
They are calling for immediate government intervention to restore security and ensure their safety.
Dr. Isaac Boateng, Acting Medical Administrator at the local hospital and a recent victim of armed robbery, stated that he would stop work if nothing is done by Friday.
“The entire staff has given the government a two-week ultimatum. We can’t die here in silence,” he declared.
Kwaku Fianko Gyan, General Manager of the hospital, described the situation as dire, noting that robbery incidents occur nearly three times a week on the Ekye Amanfrom–Donkorkrom road.
“We are under siege. Lives are at risk daily. Government must act now,” he emphasized.
Residents have joined the call for improved security, urging the return of the Anti-Robbery Task Force to help curb the rising crime wave.
The Acting Coordinating Director of the District Assembly confirmed that consultations are ongoing regarding the possible redeployment of the task force.
Meanwhile, Divisional Police Commander ACP Klomegah Christopher has urged calm, assuring residents that the situation is being addressed. He revealed that four suspects have so far been arrested, and efforts are underway to restore peace and order in the area.
