The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Upper Denkyira East, Hon. George Anane Coleman, is set to begin a cleanup exercise in collaboration with Filla Group of Companies on Saturday, May 3.
The cleanup initiative marks the MCE’s flagship project in the constituency and comes during his first week in office.
Speaking on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda, Hon. Coleman said the exercise is part of a long-standing tradition in the municipality, typically held on the first Saturday of every month.
He explained that the upcoming session will be unique, as every assembly member, key stakeholders, and traditional leaders (Nananom) will mobilize residents in their respective communities to ensure active participation.
Major youth groups including keep-fit clubs, aboboyaa riders, football teams, and other local associations have also been invited to help gather young people and join the effort.
Addressing concerns that some residents often wait for official instructions before cleaning their surroundings, the MCE stated that community engagement sessions are being planned to promote personal responsibility.
“Zoomlion Waste Management has had ongoing issues and hasn’t been operational for some time,” he noted. “However, as a town with leadership, we can sit together and find ways to address waste management in the absence of those who are paid to do the job.”
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of stakeholder involvement, expressing confidence that collaborative efforts will lead to lasting solutions for waste management in the municipality.
