The District Education Directorate in Twifo Atti-Morkwa in the Central Region has appealed to the government to increase the number of teachers posted to the district to address staffing gaps in schools.
Mrs. Augustina Attakorah, District Education Director, said the shortage of teachers in some communities, coupled with inadequate educational infrastructure, was putting pressure on the delivery of quality teaching and learning.
She disclosed that about 17 school projects being undertaken under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) remained incomplete, leaving some schools without adequate classroom facilities to support effective instruction.
Mrs. Attakorah, therefore, urged the relevant authorities to give urgent attention to the human resource and infrastructure challenges confronting education in the district.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Isaac Yawson, assured residents that the Assembly remained committed to improving educational infrastructure in the area.
He said the Assembly was using resources from the District Assemblies Common Fund to support some of the outstanding projects, while plans were also being pursued to extend development initiatives to other communities.
Traditional leaders, including Nana Yaw Odae III and Kojo Afful II, also highlighted the educational and developmental needs of their respective communities and called for additional government intervention.
