Malik Basintale, Acting CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has strongly stated that the agency will not renew its contract with Zoomlion unless the GH¢250 monthly stipend for sanitation workers is reviewed and increased.
In a Facebook post on Friday, April 25, Basintale described the current arrangement as exploitative and unfair to Ghanaian youth.
His comments follow growing public criticism, notably from investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, who has exposed alleged contract breaches and worker mistreatment under the sanitation initiative.
Echoing these concerns, Basintale called the deal a “rip-off” of vulnerable Ghanaians, insisting that such injustice cannot continue.
“All my life, I have fought for integrity and for the better placement of the youth and people of Ghana,” Basintale wrote.
“I promise on my honour, as I stand by the grave of my late dad, NOT to RENEW the contract in its CURRENT STATE or FORM. It is EVIL for the previous government to have committed to this, and I SHALL STOP IT.”
He added:
“GH¢250 is unacceptable for anyone, let alone a family member of mine working with Zoomlion.”
Mr. Basintale has invited the public to join a live Facebook discussion at 8:00 PM to share their views on the Zoomlion contract and the way forward.
