Denkyirahene, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV, has elevated the Watreso Stool from an Ɔdikro Stool to a Black Stool, citing the rapid growth and increasing importance of the community within the Denkyira Traditional Area.
The announcement was made during the fifth Akwasidae celebration at Amponsemfie, Jukwa, on Sunday.
Addressing chiefs, queen mothers and members of the Denkyira State, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV said the Watreso Stool belonged to the Denkyirahene and not to any particular family.
He explained that previous occupants had held the stool as a privilege granted by the Denkyirahene through the Denkyira Abusuapanin.
The stool became vacant following the elevation of Nana Kweku Peprah from Watreso Ɔdikro to Denkyira Gyaasehene, a divisional chief of the traditional area.
The Denkyirahene said the stool had since been under the care of Safohene Ekow Kakraba through his nephew, Nana Kweku Foso, who served as regent.
In recognition of his loyalty, dedication and service to the Denkyira Kingdom, Nana Kweku Foso was elevated and installed as Gyaasuahene.
Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Boa Amponsem IV reaffirmed that the authority to appoint an occupant of the Watreso Stool rested solely with the Denkyirahene, acting through the Denkyira Abusuapanin.
He said with the elevation of the stool to Black Stool status, he would, at the appropriate time, nominate and enstool a qualified candidate from any family of his choice to occupy the stool.
The announcement was greeted with applause and excitement by the chiefs, queen mothers and people who attended the Akwasidae celebration.
