A Veterinary Doctor in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality, Dr. Obeng, has urged residents to vaccinate their dogs and other pets regularly to prevent rabies.
Speaking on Denkyiraman Radio with host Justice Oppong Mensah as part of activities marking World Rabies Day, Dr. Obeng described rabies as a deadly viral disease commonly found in bats, which can be transmitted to dogs and humans.
He explained that symptoms of rabies in animals include aggression, excessive drooling, and unusual behavior, while in humans it may present as fever, headaches, and eventual paralysis.
Dr. Obeng emphasized that rabies is 100 percent preventable through vaccination, but almost always fatal if left untreated.
