The Assin Nsuaem-Kyekyewere Circuit Court has sentenced Frank Owusu, alias “Lifer”, a 26-year-old farmer, to 30 years in prison after finding him guilty of robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The incident occurred on March 28, 2025, at Assin Praso in the Central Region. Prosecutors, led by ASP Nana George Akomeah, told the court that Owusu broke into the room of Bremah Lucy, a baker, around 11:00 p.m. while she slept with her two children.

Armed with a locally manufactured pistol, he stole two mobile phones worth GH¢250 and a pair of spectacles valued at GH¢200. He then threatened the complainant with the pistol and forced her to surrender GH¢3,000, bringing the total value of stolen property to GH¢3,450.

Some tenants pursued him and managed to recover the pistol and phones at the Adansi School Park, but Owusu escaped with the cash. He later went into hiding until his arrest on September 27, 2025. During interrogation, he admitted to committing the crime.

Presiding judge, His Lordship Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, handed him 30 years imprisonment for robbery and two months for unlawful possession of a firearm, to run concurrently.

In his ruling, the judge expressed concern over the rising spate of robberies in rural communities, stressing that the sentence should serve as a deterrent.
