The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in the Ashanti Region has launched a 30-day campaign against gender-based violence (GBV).
Themed “From Silence to Strength: Speak Up, Stand Up, Support,” the campaign aims to raise awareness, empower victims, and encourage the public to report cases of abuse.
Speaking at the launch, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, emphasized that the fight against domestic violence is a shared responsibility. He pledged his unwavering support for DOVVSU and reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals.
Chief Superintendent of Police Madam Victoria Yeboah Dankwa, the Regional DOVVSU Coordinator, highlighted the link between domestic peace and national development, stating, “There can be no development if there is no peace at home.”
She encouraged the public to trust and support DOVVSU’s work, adding that the unit’s doors are open to all victims. Madam Dankwa also assured the public that the privacy and rights of victims will be fully protected.
She further appealed to journalists and media houses to play a key role in safeguarding victims’ rights, particularly those of children.
The campaign, which began on July 2, 2025, and will end on July 31, 2025, includes a public float through the principal streets of Kumasi to increase awareness.
