The newly enstooled Denkyirahene, Nana Boamponsem IV, has reaffirmed his commitment to the unity and holistic development of Denkyira and its people, both at home and abroad.
“I am for the upliftment of Denkyira, and I can’t do it alone,” he declared. “I will need each and every one of you, especially those present here today.”
Nana Boamponsem IV outlined his vision to unite all Denkyiras and people of Denkyira ancestry, emphasizing plans to organize a biannual homecoming festival to bring together Denkyiras from across Ghana and the diaspora including those in Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
He noted that Denkyira people constitute a significant portion of several regions in Ghana, including about 75% in the Ashanti Region, 85% in Bono, 30% in Volta, and 45% each in the Western and Eastern Regions.
Turning to human capital development, Nana Boamponsem IV announced plans to introduce an educational fund and scholarship scheme, to be known as the Odèfoɔ Educational Fund, aimed at supporting bright but needy students. He also pledged to lobby for improved healthcare institutions across Denkyira communities and to establish a training college at Jukwa to enhance educational and professional capacity.
On economic empowerment, the Denkyirahene underscored the importance of youth employment and skills development programmes, designed to reduce unemployment and equip the youth with practical skills.
Acknowledging Denkyira’s rich mineral endowment, he promised to promote sustainable and responsible mining practices, cautioning against the destructive effects of illegal mining on the environment. “I will engage all those involved in galamsey so that together, we can pursue responsible mining,” he stated.
Finally, Nana Boamponsem IV expressed his intent to attract investments to create job opportunities for the youth, calling on all Denkyiras to rally behind his vision.
“With this vision of mine, I crave your indulgence to help me realize this dream to make Denkyira all that we desire it to be,” he concluded. “Thank you for honoring my invitation at such short notice. God bless you all.”
