The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a key suspect in the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose burnt body was discovered on July 9, 2025.
The suspect, identified as Bright Aweh, was apprehended following investigations that linked him to Amoah’s disappearance.
According to police reports, Aweh was the last known individual to have contacted Amoah. He had invited him to a meeting under the pretense of settling a financial obligation. Prior to the meeting, Aweh sent WhatsApp images of large bundles of cash to Amoah and asked to meet at a location in Ashongman Estate on the night of July 3, 2025, the last time Amoah was seen alive.
During police interrogation, Aweh admitted to handing over GHS 500,000 in cash to Amoah, allegedly for debt payments and safekeeping. However, he failed to provide a credible source for the money and gave contradictory statements, which further deepened police suspicion of his involvement.
The police are appealing to the public for assistance in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to report to the nearest police station or call 18555 or 192.
Meanwhile, police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Amoah’s death. His severely burnt body was found in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, raising renewed concerns about public safety in the vicinity.
