The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Upper Denkyira East, Hon. George Anane Coleman, has stated that the Assembly’s priority areas are in full alignment with the GHS25 million District Assembly Common Fund that is yet to be released.
Speaking on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda, Hon. Anane Coleman clarified that road construction and maintenance are not covered by the common fund, as those responsibilities fall solely under the central government.
He further explained that the Assembly’s education budget is limited to basic schools, with secondary schools managed at the national level and therefore not included in their jurisdiction.
Addressing questions about the common fund’s limitations, the MCE revealed that a significant portion of the allocation is directed towards sanitation and waste management. However, he noted that other internally generated funds (IDFs) earmarked for sanitation could potentially be reallocated to address areas not covered by the common fund.
Hon. Anane Coleman also conveyed greetings from the Member of Parliament, Hon. Emelia Ankomah, to BECE candidates, encouraging them to study hard and make the municipality proud. He disclosed that the MP has plans to sponsor students particularly those pursuing science and aspiring to study law through to university before she exits office.
The MCE concluded by cautioning school authorities against compromising academic standards or condoning examination malpractice. He emphasized that strict supervision will be enforced at examination centers to uphold the integrity of the exams.
