President John Dramani Mahama has annulled the appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCES) made by the previous government, effective immediately.

The decision was communicated in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama.

The move is part of the Mahama administration’s attempt to restructure local governance in line with its policy goals once the new government takes office.

The revocation comes under the authority granted to President Mahama by the Local Government Acts of 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Government (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940). The appointments of MMDCES and assembly members under the relevant sections of the Act have been annulled.
