Police in the Assin North District of the Central Region are pursuing a driver suspected to have knocked down and killed a pedestrian at Assin Akonfudi.
The unidentified man was found dead in a roadside gutter on Monday, September 7, 2026, with injuries to his head.
Although details surrounding the incident remain unclear, the nature of the injuries has raised suspicion that the deceased might have been knocked down by a vehicle.
Mr Prince Agyekum, Assembly Member for the area, said the deceased was a familiar figure in the community and was believed to have been living with mental health challenges.
He said efforts were underway to establish the identity of the deceased and trace his relatives.
Mr Agyekum appealed to residents who might know the deceased or have information about the incident to assist the Police with relevant information.
Superintendent Eric Yao Avudzi, Assin North District Police Commander, confirmed the incident to the Media.
He said the body had been deposited at the mortuary with assistance from Environmental Health Officers of the District Assembly.
Police investigations are ongoing, while the suspected driver remains at large.
