The High Court has ordered the remand of a senior opposition politician, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, after he allegedly failed to comply with the conditions of his bail in an ongoing criminal case.
The Accra High Court ruled that the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) be held in police custody after determining he had not surrendered his passport as required under his bail terms.
The court said the decision followed non-compliance with directives issued when he was granted bail earlier in the proceedings.
Abronye DC, who is facing a charge of false publication brought by the state, was not present in court when the ruling was delivered.
He had previously been remanded before being granted bail by the High Court last month, with the condition that he deposit his passport with the court.
His alleged failure to meet that requirement led the court to revoke his bail and order his remand.
The substantive case, which remains pending, is expected to continue before the Circuit Court, where proceedings on the false publication charge are ongoing.
The case is the latest in a series of legal challenges involving the outspoken regional politician, a prominent figure within the opposition NPP.
