Former Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Minister and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has officially submitted her nomination to contest the position of National Women Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The former MP announced her decision after leading her campaign team to meet Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, at his office ahead of submitting her nomination forms at the party’s headquarters.
“We officially communicated my intention to run for the position of National Women Organiser of our esteemed party, the New Patriotic Party,” Madam Koomson said.
She said her decision was informed by what she described as a “pivotal moment” for the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“Our party stands at a pivotal moment; the upcoming leadership will be vital for the survival of our democracy, our party, and our nation,” she said.
According to Madam Koomson, the NPP’s Women’s Wing would play a critical role in the party’s efforts to regain political power in 2028.
She said the wing required “bold, assertive and courageous leadership” capable of mobilising women across the country towards victory.
“My ambition is not merely to occupy a position but to spearhead an organised and dynamic women’s wing that is fully equipped to secure victory for the NPP and for Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia,” she said.
Madam Koomson pledged to strengthen the structures of the Women’s Wing and make it more organised and effective if given the mandate.
She described her decision as a commitment to the party and appealed to party members and supporters to join her campaign.
“This is my solemn commitment to you, and I wholeheartedly invite you to join me on this journey. Together, we can make a difference and pave the way for a brighter future for Ghana,” she said.
Madam Koomson was accompanied by a number of prominent party women and supporters during her visit.
The NPP is expected to hold its National Executive elections later this year to elect new leaders who will lead the party towards the 2028 general elections.
