Passengers across Ghana will from Tuesday, June 2, 2026, pay more for public transport after the Ghana Private Road Transport Union and other transport operators announced a 20 percent increase in fares nationwide.

The new adjustment will affect trotro services within towns and cities, long-distance travel, and shared taxi services.

The union explained that the increase has become necessary because of the rising cost of fuel and vehicle maintenance, including tyres, batteries, engine oil and spare parts.

Speaking to National Deputy Public Relations Officer of GPRTU, Samuel Amoah, said transport operators had earlier delayed any increment with the hope that fuel prices would reduce, but the current situation has made that impossible.

He added that many drivers have complained about the pressure of running their vehicles under the current conditions.

The revised transport fares will officially take effect nationwide from Tuesday, June 2, and passengers are encouraged to take note.
