President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaian scholars and intellectuals to help the nation confront its challenges by producing ideas and evidence-based solutions to shape policy and national development.
He said Ghana must draw on its intellectual resources both at home and abroad to transform uncertainty into opportunity.
President Mahama made the call at an Independence Day webinar organised by the Ghana Studies Association under the theme: “Ghana in Uncertain Times.”
The event brought together academics, policymakers and members of the diaspora to reflect on the country’s trajectory and explore pathways for national renewal.
President Mahama emphasised that scholarship and innovation remained central to Ghana’s progress and urged academics to ensure that their research contributed directly to solving national problems.
“Our policies must be informed by rigorous evidence and not passing fashions,” he said, adding that Ghana, rooted in its intellectual traditions, would meet uncertainty with purpose.
According to the President, knowledge-driven development was essential for building prosperity and inspiring hope among citizens.
“Knowledge will build prosperity. Innovation will inspire hope. The minds of our people will shape Ghana’s future,” he said.
President Mahama commended scholars for their role in national transformation and urged them to collaborate across disciplines and support one another in generating ideas capable of strengthening Ghana’s institutions and economy.
“Let us seize this moment to bring forth our ideas, support one another, and take bold steps so that we may transform uncertainty into opportunity,” he added.
The Ghana Studies Association describes itself as the umbrella body for scholars working on Ghana-related themes around the world.
