The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed the immediate suspension of the Principal of the Nurses and Midwifery Training College, Nalerigu over alleged unauthorised admissions.

The directive was issued during the Minister’s working tour of the Upper East, North-East and Northern Regions to assess operations and service delivery in health facilities and training institutions.

Mr Akandoh, who had earlier been briefed on reports of irregular admissions at the Nalerigu-based institution, paid an unannounced visit to the college as part of the tour.

Preliminary findings, according to the Minister, pointed to breaches of established admission protocols, prompting the immediate suspension of the head of the institution pending further investigations.

In a communiqué issued on Friday, the Minister stressed that adherence to laid-down admission procedures was non-negotiable and warned that heads of institutions found culpable of engaging in unauthorised practices would face strict sanctions.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability, noting that upholding standards in health training institutions was critical to safeguarding the integrity and quality of the country’s healthcare delivery system.

Mr Akandoh assured stakeholders that the Ministry would take appropriate measures following the outcome of investigations to ensure compliance with regulations governing admissions into health training institutions.
