Officials of Perseus Mining Company Limited, through its subsidiary Perseus Mining Ghana Limited (PMGL), have paid a courtesy call on the Denkyirahene, Odeefuo Boa Amponsem IV, the allodial owner of the company’s operational area within the Denkyira Traditional Area.
The visit, held at the palace of the Paramount Chief, was aimed at strengthening cordial relations and reaffirming the company’s respect for traditional authority as it continues operations at the Edikan Gold Mine in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.
As custodian of the Allodial Title, Odeefuo Boa Amponsem IV holds the ultimate, inherited ownership of lands within the Denkyira Traditional Area. The courtesy call formally acknowledged his authority and sought his continued blessing and cooperation for Perseus Mining’s operations in communities such as Ayanfuri, Bremen, Gyaman, Fobinso and surrounding areas.
Speaking during the visit, a representative of Perseus Mining Ghana Limited said the company remained committed to working in harmony with traditional leaders and host communities.
“We recognise the Denkyirahene as the allodial owner of the land on which we operate, and it is important for us to regularly engage him, seek his counsel and secure his blessings for our activities,” the official said.
The PMGL delegation noted that the engagement formed part of the company’s broader efforts to sustain its social licence to operate through respect for Ghana’s traditional governance structures.
“Our presence here today is to reaffirm our respect for traditional authority and to assure Nana and the people of Denkyira of our commitment to responsible mining and sustainable community development,” the official added.
The company highlighted its past investments and ongoing social development initiatives in the traditional area, particularly in education, health, road infrastructure and livelihood support programmes.
Denkyirahene, Odeefuo Boa Amponsem IV, welcomed the delegation and commended Perseus Mining for maintaining open communication with traditional authorities.
“It is encouraging that Perseus Mining continues to recognise the role of traditional leadership and engages us on matters affecting our land and people,” the Denkyirahene said.
He urged the company to deepen its collaboration with the communities and ensure that its operations continue to bring lasting benefits to the people of Denkyira.
“We expect mining activities in our area to contribute meaningfully to development and improve the lives of our people, and we will continue to support companies that operate responsibly,” he added.
The visit underscored the importance of mutual respect, dialogue and partnership between corporate entities and traditional leadership in promoting peaceful coexistence and sustainable development within mining communities.
