Otumfuo Baamu Sofo Nana Kwakye Amoako Atta has called on the youth of the Ashanti Region to stay away from drug use and negative lifestyles, urging them instead to embody discipline and good character as proud sons and daughters of the Asante Kingdom.
He made the call during the third day of the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The event, which has drawn dignitaries from across Ghana and beyond, has become not only a period of mourning but also a moment of cultural reflection and guidance for the younger generation.
Nana Kwakye Amoako Atta reminded the youth that Asanteman remains a kingdom where discipline and integrity can elevate young men to the highest office of kingship. He warned that indulgence in drugs and reckless behavior could ruin their future and tarnish the legacy of the kingdom’s forebears.
“Asante remains a kingdom where the youth have every opportunity to rise to kingship. This should challenge you to stay away from drugs and conduct yourselves in ways that uphold the dignity of Asanteman,” he advised.
He further disclosed that several chiefs from outside the Ashanti Kingdom were in attendance at the funeral a testament to Asanteman’s unique cultural stature and its recognition as a sovereign traditional kingdom.
The funeral of Nana Konadu Yiadom III has attracted chiefs, traditional rulers, political leaders, and thousands of mourners, underscoring the deep respect she commanded. While her passing marks the end of an era, it also presents an opportunity for Asanteman to reaffirm its values of discipline, unity, and cultural pride.
