The Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC) on Cocoa, chaired by me, has met and agreed on the new producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 crop season, which officially opens on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Following this meeting, the Government is pleased to announce a significant increase in the producer price of cocoa from US$3,100 per tonne to US$5,040 per tonne, marking a 62.58% rise in dollar terms.

This new price represents 70% of the gross Free-On-Board (FOB) value of $7,200 per tonne, in line with President Mahama’s promise to cocoa farmers. Under this policy, farmers are guaranteed a larger share of the international cocoa price.

For comparison, during the 2024/25 season, the previous NPP administration set the FOB value at US$4,850 per tonne, with a producer price of US$3,100, translating to 63.9% of FOB despite relatively strong global prices at the time.

The gross FOB value for the current season was determined based on 100,000 tonnes of outstanding cocoa contracts sold at US$2,600 per tonne during the 2023/2024 crop season, along with the average forecast for 2025/2026.

At an average exchange rate of GHS10.25 to the US Dollar for the upcoming season, the new producer price has increased from GHS49,600 per tonne to GHS51,660 per tonne. This translates to GHS3,228.75 per 64kg bag of cocoa (gross weight).

This new producer price will take effect starting Thursday, August 7, 2025.
