Twenty-five final-year students of Agona Swedru Senior High School in Ghana’s Central Region have been suspended indefinitely following a violent altercation stemming from a same-sex relationship proposal.
The incident reportedly began when a male student proposed a romantic relationship to another male student. The proposal was rejected, and the approached student later shared the encounter with friends.
This led to a group of students attacking the student who made the proposal, sparking a series of reprisal attacks on campus.
The school’s headmistress, Mrs. Golda Andam, confirmed the suspensions after an internal investigation into the incident.
Despite the disciplinary action, the suspended students will be allowed to return under parental escort to write their final examinations, in line with Ghana Education Service (GES) guidelines.
The school is currently engaging stakeholders to provide support to the affected students and has urged all students to remain disciplined and strictly observe school rules.
