In a chilling incident at Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region, a 30-year-old Uber driver, Kwadwo Antwi, narrowly escaped death after a passenger turned on him with a machete and fled with his vehicle.
Antwi reportedly picked up the passenger at Abrepo Junction in Kumasi and drove him toward Barekese. Upon arrival, the passenger suddenly pulled out a cutlass and launched a violent assault.
According to the victim’s father, Mr. Alex, the assailant slashed his son’s hand and thigh before Antwi managed to unfasten his seat belt and escape.
“Before my son was able to remove the seat belt and run for his life, the suspect struck his hand and lap with the cutlass,” Mr. Alex recounted.
The attacker then forced Antwi out of the car and sped off in the Toyota Vitz, registered AS 7104-22.
Despite sustaining serious injuries, Antwi survived the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.
“My son, who was the Uber driver, didn’t die and is responding to treatment. The police are investigating to arrest the suspect,” Mr. Alex confirmed.
