Carpenter Jailed 10 Years for Robbery and Stabbing at Assin Adubiase

The Assin Nsuaem Kyekyewere Circuit Court, presided over by His Lordship Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, has sentenced a 36-year-old carpenter, Anthony Asirifi, also known as Kofi Edem, to 10 years in prison for robbery and assault.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Abdulai Moro, presented the case against Asirifi and his accomplice, Enoch Damptey, a driver. The charges included conspiracy to commit a crime, causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry, stealing, causing unlawful harm, possession of offensive weapons, and possession of instruments adapted for unlawful entry.

The court heard that on July 10, 2025, around 12:30 a.m., Asirifi and another accomplice, Nana Yaw currently on the run carried out a string of thefts in the Assin Adubiase township, in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

Their first target was the residence of electrical engineer Samuel Osei Korankyi and his wife, Catherine Bruce, also known as Kate. Asirifi broke through the kitchen wire mesh, causing GH¢500 worth of damage, and ransacked the home. The items stolen included an ASUS laptop valued at GH¢5,000, a Motorola mobile phone valued at GH¢4,500, and cash amounting to GH¢2,570 bringing the total loss to GH¢12,070.

The robbers then proceeded to the home of Gordon Amaglo, also known as Tawiah. Asirifi cut open a trap gate (valued at GH¢200), stole a TECNO POP 10 phone valued at GH¢1,500, and a Dell laptop worth GH¢2,300 totalling GH¢3,800.

However, Amaglo woke up during the robbery and attempted to apprehend Asirifi, who stabbed him in the eye with a kitchen knife. Despite the injury, Amaglo assisted by some townspeople managed to subdue and arrest Asirifi.

A search of the suspect revealed various tools including a kitchen knife, a pair of cutters, a lighter, and a pair of scissors. Asirifi was handed over to the police and later confessed during interrogation, naming accomplices though he alone stood trial.

The court found Asirifi guilty on all counts and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment.
