President John Dramani Mahama has called on Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to regard their appointments as a call to serve, not as a personal reward.
Speaking at an orientation and training programme for MMDCEs in Accra, President Mahama emphasized the critical role of local governance in driving national development. He urged the appointees to prioritize transparency, inclusiveness, and sustainable progress in their work.
“This is not a personal reward; it is a public responsibility,” he said, stressing that their selection followed careful evaluation and must be met with humility, a strong sense of duty, and accountability.
He also underscored the importance of using allocated resources judiciously and transparently to spur development at the local level core elements of his broader “resetting agenda” aimed at national renewal and effective decentralization.
President Mahama’s message served as both a reminder of the weight of public office and a call to action for the newly appointed MMDCEs to deliver results that justify the trust placed in them.
