Mohammed Amin, popularly known as Don King, has officially declared his support for Dr. Bryan Acheampong in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership race, marking what insiders are calling a major grassroots breakthrough for the Abetifi MP. A respected political force in Northern Ghana, Don King has been largely inactive in recent years, but following a strategic meeting with Dr. Acheampong, he has pledged to re-engage in party affairs with a renewed mission to help deliver the NPP leadership to Acheampong. According to the Acheampong campaign, Don King believes Dr.Bryan is the only candidate capable of uniting the party and leading it back to power in 2028.
Don King’s return is expected to significantly boost Dr. Acheampong’s reach among grassroots delegates, particularly in Northern and Zongo communities, where loyalty and mobilisation often outweigh national prominence. Known for his fieldwork and deep influence within local party structures, Don King will play a lead role in reviving dormant campaign networks, restoring confidence among foot soldiers, and intensifying delegate outreach. A major mobilisation event is being planned in Tamale to mark his official return to frontline politics ahead of the NPP’s January 31 congress.
