The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the country was targeted by Iranian ballistic missiles on Saturday, with air defence systems intercepting a number of them.

In a statement, the ministry said debris from the intercepted missiles fell in a residential area of Abu Dhabi, killing one civilian described as an Asian national.

Authorities indicated that emergency alerts were immediately sent to mobile phones across several locations in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, warning residents of potential missile threats.

The alert advised the public to “seek immediate shelter in the closest secure building and to steer away from windows, doors, and open areas” due to the evolving security situation.

Response teams were deployed to the affected site to assess the damage and secure the area, the ministry added.

Condemning the attack in strong terms, the Ministry of Defence described it as a dangerous escalation and a cowardly act that threatens civilian safety and undermines stability.

The authorities stressed that the UAE remains prepared to defend its territory and protect the safety of citizens and residents.

The development comes amid heightened tensions in the region, raising concerns about the safety of civilians and the risk of further escalation.
