The Dunkwa-On-Offin Government Hospital in the Central Region descended into chaos today as the nationwide strike by nurses and midwives in public health facilities entered a critical phase.

According to reports from Denkyiraman Radio’s correspondent, Yaa Oforiwaa, healthcare delivery at the hospital has come to a near standstill. Patients are being left unattended as the few available doctors struggle to manage the overwhelming number of cases despite a court injunction aimed at halting the industrial action.

Several patients and caregivers expressed frustration over the long queues and the shortage of medical personnel.

“We are suffering but can’t even complain because the few professionals here are doing us a favor. We’re pleading with the government to meet their demands human lives are at risk,” one patient said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) remains resolute, insisting they will not return to work until their demands are fully addressed.

The strike, which began on June 2, 2025, escalated into a full shutdown on June 9, driven by the GRNMA’s demand for the immediate implementation of the 2024 Collective Agreement, which covers pay, benefits, and working conditions.
