President John Dramani Mahama has called on businesses to support Ghana’s economic recovery by reducing prices to reflect the recent appreciation of the cedi.
Speaking at a public engagement, President Mahama expressed gratitude to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for taking the lead in lowering transport fares a move that has provided much-needed relief to commuters.
“GPRTU, thank you very much,” he said. “And so, those of you who haven’t responded yet, please pass on some of the cedi appreciation to Ghanaians.”
He further assured the business community of the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and a supportive economic environment.
“We assure you of our commitment to fiscal discipline and a conducive business environment.
We appreciate businesses that have passed on the benefits of the cedi’s appreciation to Ghanaians by reducing prices,” he added.
The President’s comments come amid a period of steady appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against major foreign currencies, signaling potential economic stabilization.
The government hopes that more businesses will follow the GPRTU’s example by easing prices in line with improved macroeconomic indicators.
