Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has sharply criticized the process leading to her removal from office, describing it as a blatant violation of the 1992 Constitution.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra today, Justice Torkornoo expressed deep concern over what she called a serious breach of constitutional and legal procedures.
She stated that the process has been conducted in a manner that defies every principle governing the administration of justice in Ghana.
“This development poses a real danger to the future of our democracy,” she warned.
Justice Torkornoo has filed a legal challenge at the Supreme Court, seeking to nullify her suspension and prevent the designated committee from proceeding with the removal process.
Legal experts have affirmed her constitutional right to defend herself and challenge any procedural irregularities.
The case has drawn national attention and reignited debate over judicial independence and the integrity of due process in Ghana’s governance.
Her suspension has sparked widespread controversy, with opposition parties accusing the government of politicizing the judiciary.
