The Ghana Gold Board has officially launched a nationwide licensing program for gold trading service providers, beginning today, April 23, 2025.

This initiative is part of the Board’s broader efforts to restructure and regulate the gold industry, reduce smuggling, and boost national revenue.

Under the program, Ghanaians aged 18 and above, as well as fully Ghanaian-owned companies, are eligible to apply for a GoldBod license. Applications can be submitted online via goldbod.gov.gh or in person at the Licensing Office in Accra.

Currently, the GoldBod is accepting applications for four categories of licenses:

  • Aggregator
  • Self-financing Aggregator
  • Tier 1 Buyer
  • Tier 2 Buyer

Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer of the Board, announced that additional licenses—for Refining, Smelting, Fabrication, and other services—will become available in July 2025.

“All relevant information about the GoldBod’s mandate, policies, and operations can be accessed at goldbod.gov.gh,” Mr. Minkah stated. “Applicants must read, understand, and accept our Terms and Conditions before submitting a license application.”

Meanwhile, the GoldBod reaffirmed its April 30, 2025 deadline for foreign nationals to exit Ghana’s local gold trading market.

“Failure to comply with this directive will result in penalties under the Ghana GoldBod Act, 2025 (Act 1140). However, foreigners may still explore gold off-take opportunities through sanctioned GoldBod channels,” the statement concluded.
