The Ministry of Energy has recovered 2,637 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), more than doubling the initial estimate of 1,300 reportedly missing.
This development was disclosed by Richmond Rockson, spokesperson for the ministry, in an interview with the Daily Graphic.
He noted that a committee investigating the alleged disappearance discovered the containers at the Tema Port. The items were originally meant for ECG but had not been accounted for in earlier reports.
As of April 30, 2025, ECG had 2,583 outstanding containers spread across multiple locations:
Meridian Port Services – 860 containers
Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) terminals – 1,237 containers
National Security (evacuated containers) – 272 containers
Amaris Terminal – 194 containers
ATLAS Manufacturing Terminal – 20 containers
The Electricity Company of Ghana is expected to begin negotiations with port authorities to resolve outstanding port charges.
