The Council of State has invited the leadership of teacher unions to a meeting on Friday, October 9, to discuss measures to resolve the ongoing labour dispute affecting teaching and learning in schools.
A letter signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ahmed A. Imoro said the meeting would provide an opportunity for members of the Council to be briefed on concerns raised by the unions regarding the dispute.
The meeting is being convened on behalf of Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, Chairman of the Council’s Economic and Social Development Committee.
According to the letter, discussions would focus on outstanding promotions, deprived-area allowances and the collective bargaining agreement under consideration between the unions and the Ministry of Education.
The invitation comes amid industrial action by teacher unions over unresolved employment-related concerns, which have disrupted academic activities in schools.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment has also invited the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and PRETAG to a separate meeting on Friday.
A letter dated October 8, signed by Chief Director Hamidu Adakurugu on behalf of the Minister, said the meeting would discuss the status of interventions aimed at resolving the strike and other related matters.
