A 40-year-old woman, Afia Koowah, has been allegedly raped and murdered near the Awutu Breku Eye Clinic in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
According to her husband, Kofi Opare, Afia left home around 2 p.m. with their four-month-old baby to buy fried fish in the area but never returned.
He said he initially visited his in-laws who live nearby to ask if they had seen her, but all efforts to locate her proved unsuccessful. He added that Afia had a history of leaving the house without informing him, so he assumed it was not unusual at first.
When she had still not returned by evening, a search party was organized around 8 p.m. The following morning, a resident discovered her lifeless body near an uncompleted building at a new site, with her baby crying beside her.
The resident took the baby to the Awutu Breku Police Station. According to eyewitness accounts, the body was found with blood in her mouth and her underwear removed raising suspicion of sexual assault.
The Awutu Breku Police Command is yet to convey the body for preservation and has not released an official statement as investigations continue.
