Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has inspected the ongoing construction of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium, a project being personally undertaken by him.

During his visit to the construction site on Saturday, May 24, Dr. Acheampong provided an update on the state and progress of the project since work began on May 12.

The modified facility is being built to meet FIFA standards and will include additional features such as tennis and basketball courts. These amenities were not part of the original plan but have been added at the MP’s initiative to promote other sporting disciplines in the area.

So far, three damaged sections of the perimeter wall have been repaired. In line with current FIFA requirements, players must now access the pitch directly from the changing rooms. However, due to the considerable distance between the old changing room and the field, a new changing room will be constructed on the extreme eastern side of the pitch.

Plans are also underway to erect one-meter-high platforms behind each goalpost, each capable of accommodating 1,000 spectators. On the western side, a 3,000-seater bleacher will be constructed.

The playing area itself will adhere to FIFA regulations with a 105-meter by 68-meter pitch, and an overall field space of 125 meters by 88 meters. A two-meter gap will be maintained between the pitch and the perimeter wall where spectators will stand.

Dr. Acheampong emphasized that although the project will be costly, it is a promise he intends to fulfill.

“It’s going to be a nice one. As you can see from the design, this is not just a football park it’s going to be a central hub for many activities in Nkawkaw. We plan to add basketball and tennis courts after the pitch is completed. This will also allow Great Okwahu United to resume playing its home matches here in Kwahu. Contractors are on site, and we’ve cleared the area with machinery,” he said.

He also disclosed that officials from the Ghana Football Association will inspect the site on Sunday, and the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly will officially cut sod for the project on Wednesday, even though construction has already begun.

The project is expected to be completed within four and a half months.

Dr. Acheampong had pledged in November 2024, ahead of the general elections, to support the construction of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium in 2025.
