The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has proposed that the 24-Hour Economy Policy be presented to Parliament for a comprehensive, bipartisan debate following its official launch.
According to him, subjecting the policy to parliamentary scrutiny will promote national ownership, ensure broader understanding, and facilitate smooth implementation across the political divide.
Mr. Bagbin underscored the importance of detaching the policy from partisan, religious, and ethnic lenses, urging all stakeholders to embrace it as a national development programme.
He cited past successful initiatives, including Vision 2020 and the Free Senior High School policy, which were first debated in Parliament, as examples of the importance of legislative engagement in national policies.
Presidential Advisor for the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, Mr. Augustus Obuadum Goosie Tanoh, outlined the policy’s three main pillars: Production Transformation, Supply Chain and Market Efficiency, and Human Capital Development.
He added that the policy will be supported by eight sub-programmes among them Grow 24, Make 24, and Aspire 24—designed to stimulate the private sector and boost economic growth.
The 24-Hour Economy Policy, a flagship campaign promise of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), is scheduled to be launched on July 2, 2025, by former President and 2024 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama. The policy seeks to create jobs, improve productivity, and transform Ghana’s economic landscape.
