The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that a by-election will be held on Saturday, 30 April 2024 in Ejisu. The by-election was triggered by the passing of Dr John Kumah, who was a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area. Dr Kumah, aged 45, passed away after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife and six children.
The vetting committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given approval to all nine individuals aspiring to contest in the party’s parliamentary primary in the constituency. This decision was reached on Saturday, 6 April 2024. Nominations for the NPP primary were open from Tuesday, 2 April 2024 to Thursday, 4 April 2024, and all nine aspirants submitted their candidacy by the closing date.
The NPP is scheduled to select its parliamentary candidate for the constituency on Saturday, 13 April 2024. As of now, no other political party has officially declared its interest in participating in the by-election. However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated that it is still deliberating on whether it will field a candidate for the by-election.
