Government has distributed 1.7 million poultry birds to farmers nationwide under the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme, a key initiative under the Feed Ghana Programme aimed at boosting local poultry production, creating jobs, and enhancing food security.
Speaking in Parliament, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, said the intervention forms part of efforts to reduce Ghana’s dependence on imported poultry products while supporting farmers with birds, feed, and technical assistance.
The programme, launched in November 2025 by John Dramani Mahama, initially targeted the distribution of three million birds to revitalize the country’s poultry industry. Government says the initiative will continue to expand to benefit more farmers across the country.
Mr. Dumelo further noted that additional measures under the Feed Ghana Programme include support for grain farmers through guaranteed minimum prices, grain purchases, and improved storage facilities to reduce post-harvest losses and ensure a stable food supply.
Government expects the programme to increase local poultry production, improve household incomes, create employment opportunities, and strengthen national food security.
