A fire outbreak at Assin Kushia in the Assin North District of the Central Region has left a couple hospitalised after their three-bedroom house was completely destroyed.

The incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday while the occupants were away from home, destroying the building and property estimated to be worth several thousands of Ghana cedis.

Items destroyed in the fire included television sets, refrigerators, beds, mattresses, clothing, fans, and an unspecified amount of cash.

The former Assembly Member for the area, Mr Adamu Frimpong, told the media that the homeowner, Mr Abrahim Kwamena, a cocoa farmer, rushed home upon receiving news of the fire and sustained injuries while attempting to force his way into the burning building to salvage some valuables.

Mr Frimpong said the wife of the homeowner, Akua Fatima, a trader, collapsed after learning that an amount of GH¢50,000, believed to be a business loan, had been burnt in the fire.

Both victims were assisted by residents and Good Samaritans and rushed to a nearby health facility, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

Efforts by residents to put out the fire proved unsuccessful. Although personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were alerted, they arrived after the fire had already caused extensive damage.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established, and the Ghana National Fire Service has commenced investigations into the incident.
