Health workers at the Akoti Health Centre in the Assin Fosu Municipality have called for improved security following an attack on a patient by suspected assailants within the facility.
The incident occurred after a confrontation between a man, identified as Yaw Buabeng, and a couple in the community, during which both parties sustained injuries and were separately rushed to the health centre for treatment.
While nurses were attending to Buabeng, about ten young men, allegedly armed with sticks and other weapons, stormed the facility and assaulted him, rendering him unconscious.
The attack forced health workers to flee for safety, raising serious concerns about the security of staff and patients at the facility.
The health workers have appealed to the police to arrest all those involved, warning that continued insecurity could compel them to seek transfers from the centre.
The matter has since been reported to the Assin Fosu District Police Command.
District Police Commander, ASP Jacob Kumdzro, together with the Municipal Health Director, Mr. Benjamin Amoakoh, visited the facility to assess the situation and assure staff of enhanced security measures.
The Divisional Police Commander, ACP Dr. Asare Nyarkoh, said the police were collaborating with community leaders to discourage acts of lawlessness.
He confirmed that Yaw Buabeng is currently receiving treatment at the St. Francis Hospital under police supervision.
ACP Nyarkoh urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
