Newborn Dies After Suspected Insertion of Harmful Substance by Aunt

A sorrowful incident has plunged the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District in Ghana’s Central Region into mourning, following the tragic death of a three-day-old baby boy from internal injuries allegedly caused by the insertion of a harmful substance.

The disturbing act is suspected to have been carried out by the baby’s aunt, identified only as Alice.

According to accounts, Alice had bathed the infant and handed him back to his mother on Monday morning. Shortly afterward, the mother noticed that the baby’s condition had rapidly deteriorated. Alarmed by his distress, she called on her husband, who rushed the child to the hospital for emergency care.

Medical reports revealed that the newborn had sustained severe internal trauma. Health professionals discovered signs suggesting that a foreign or harmful substance had been forcibly inserted into the baby’s anus, causing significant damage to vital organs, including the intestines, liver, and kidneys.

Despite doctors’ efforts to stabilize him, the baby’s condition worsened, and he passed away three days later.

The tragedy has left the local community grief-stricken and calling for justice. Many residents expressed shock and disbelief over the cruelty of the incident.

The bereaved father, recounting the painful experience, alleged that his sister, Alice, was responsible. He has appealed to the Ghana Police Service to conduct a swift and thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

“No family should go through such pain,” he said tearfully. “My son was innocent he didn’t deserve this.”

Police investigations are currently underway as the community awaits answers and accountability for the baby’s untimely death.
