Former Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has called for tougher measures to curb examination malpractice, proposing the adoption of “same-hall serialisation” for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Speaking on Joy Learning TV’s News in Focus, the NPP flagbearer hopeful explained that introducing different versions of the same paper within the same examination hall would make it extremely difficult for candidates to share leaked material. He recalled that a similar approach applied during his tenure at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) produced remarkable results.
Dr. Adutwum argued that unchecked cheating undermines genuine teaching and learning, as both students and teachers lose motivation when dishonesty prevails. While he acknowledged that digital and computer-based testing remains the long-term solution, he maintained that serialisation is the most practical safeguard for now. He further encouraged 2025 WASSCE candidates to avoid shortcuts, trust their preparation, and demonstrate the quality of Ghanaian education.
