Ewurabena Aubynn, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament-elect for Ablekuma North, has been officially sworn into office by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday, 22 June, was marked by a walkout by the Minority Caucus in protest of the Speaker’s refusal to grant Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh permission to deliver a statement prior to the swearing-in.
Aubynn’s induction follows a fiercely contested parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency.
The rerun, conducted in 19 polling stations, was necessitated by the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to annul the original December 2024 election results due to electoral irregularities and unauthenticated pink sheets.
In the rerun, Aubynn secured a narrow victory with 34,090 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who polled 33,881 votes.
Aubynn’s win boosts the NDC’s parliamentary numbers and represents a significant gain in a traditionally NPP-leaning constituency.
Her swearing-in brings her one step closer to representing her constituents in Parliament and contributing to the country’s legislative agenda.
