The Eastern Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Alhaji Sofo Azorka in connection with an alleged assault during the Akwatia by-election held on September 2, 2025.
In a statement issued on Friday, September 12, the police said Mr. Azorka was arrested in Tamale on Wednesday, September 10, following a complaint filed by Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the statement, a caution statement was taken from him before he was granted bail. He has been instructed to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., where he is expected to be arraigned before court.
The Police Service assured the public of a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter and appealed for calm as the case proceeds.
