Otumfuo Presents Bawku Mediation Report to President Mahama

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Tuesday, December 16, paid a visit to Jubilee House in Accra to formally present a report on the Bawku conflict mediation process to President John Dramani Mahama.

Upon his arrival, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II held a closed-door meeting with the President, after which he officially handed over the report detailing the mediation efforts he has led towards restoring lasting peace in the conflict-prone area.

Presenting the report, the Asantehene said the mediation process had made notable progress, despite challenges.

“The process has achieved some important milestones, although there are still challenges that must be addressed,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stated.

“This report outlines what has been done so far and offers recommendations to guide the next phase of intervention towards lasting peace in Bawku.”

President John Dramani Mahama, receiving the report, commended the Asantehene for his leadership and commitment to peace-building.

“We appreciate the immense effort, patience and wisdom that Your Majesty has brought to this mediation process,” President Mahama said.

“Government remains committed to working with traditional authorities and all stakeholders to ensure peace, security and development in Bawku.”

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Minister for the Interior, Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim.

Also present was the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, who underscored the importance of traditional dialogue in resolving chieftaincy-related conflicts.

“Sustainable peace can only be achieved through dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to traditional conflict resolution mechanisms,” he said.

Representatives of the factions involved in the conflict, as well as members of the media, were also in attendance.

The presentation of the report marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and stability in Bawku and its surrounding communities through inclusive dialogue and traditional mediation.
