The legal counsel for evangelist Nana Agradaa has criticized the Accra Circuit Court’s 15-year jail sentence, describing it as excessive.

Lawyer Asare Baffour believes the court’s decision was influenced by public sentiment rather than evidence.

He pointed out that Agradaa was acquitted on some charges due to lack of evidence and questioned the basis for the sentence.

“The court acquitted her on conflict and confinement due to lack of evidence, so it’s inconsistent to convict her on other charges. This suggests the court acknowledged our defense. Given this, the 15-year sentence is excessive.”

The lawyer also noted that the amount involved in the alleged fraud was only GH₵ 540, which he believes doesn’t warrant such a harsh sentence.

“GH₵ 540 is the alleged amount, yet she’s sentenced to 15 years? This sentence seems to be based on her public image rather than the actual offense.”

Agradaa’s legal team plans to appeal the ruling, confident that justice will be served in her favor.
