An ad-hoc task force in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region has arrested and prosecuted eight individuals for dumping refuse in the Central Business District (CBD) of Kasoa.
The suspects were caught in the act and subsequently arraigned before court, where they were fined for breaching sanitation laws.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, the Assembly is ramping up efforts to enforce sanitation by launching a permanent 40-member task force drawn from various state security agencies.
“We’ve already apprehended eight people, and we’re set to commission a 40-member task force dedicated to sanitation and traffic issues. They’ll start work soon,” he said.
The new task force will intensify patrols and clamp down on offenders who flout sanitation and traffic regulations within the municipality.
Kasoa District Police Commander, ASP Emmanuel Amponsah, assured the Assembly of the police service’s full support to ensure residents comply with sanitation regulations.
“We will give him all the support he needs to ensure that members of Awutu Senya East abide by the sanitation rules,” he said.
The Assembly believes the initiative will significantly improve sanitation conditions in the area.
“This will complement the efforts of the security agencies, who’ve shown enthusiasm in working with us to patrol the CBD and apprehend those who dispose of waste indiscriminately,” the MCE added.
