School Feeding Caterers Appeal to Government After Sudden Contract Termination

The Concerned School Feeding Caterers Association is appealing to the government to allow them to continue their contracts until the end of the 2024/2025 academic year.

This follows a letter issued on May 2, which abruptly terminated their contracts, despite an earlier directive allowing them to continue until the end of the academic year.

According to Gifty Asamoah, President of the association, many members had already purchased foodstuffs for the term, including fish, groundnuts, and other essentials.

“We’ve lost a significant amount of money,” she said, expressing deep concern over the government’s sudden decision.

The caterers had initially intended to halt services following a change in government, but resumed operations after receiving official communication to continue until the academic year’s end.

Mrs. Asamoah emphasized that many caterers had invested in bulk purchases, and terminating the contracts now would lead to substantial financial losses and possible food waste.

The association is now pleading with the President to reconsider the decision.

“What do we do with these foodstuffs after the contract is terminated?” Asamoah asked, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
