The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed disciplinary sanctions on Morocco following incidents that occurred during the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 final.
In a decision issued by CAF’s Disciplinary Board, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) was fined a total of US$450,000, while two Moroccan players, Achraf Hakimi and Ismaël Saibari, were handed match suspensions for unsporting conduct.
The AFCON final between host nation Morocco and Senegal was disrupted by protests, prolonged stoppages, and disorder involving players, officials, and supporters.
The match was already tense after Senegal staged a second-half protest over alleged officiating concerns. Further incidents were recorded during the latter stages of the game and after the final whistle.
CAF said Hakimi was sanctioned for unsporting behaviour during the match. He has been suspended for two official CAF matches, with one match to be served immediately, while the second suspension has been suspended for one year and will only be enforced if he commits a similar offence within that period.
Midfielder Ismaël Saibari received a three-match suspension and was also fined US$100,000 for his conduct during the final.
CAF further imposed fines on the FRMF for various matchday infractions. The Moroccan FA was fined US$200,000 for the inappropriate conduct of ball boys, US$100,000 for the unsporting behaviour of players and technical staff who invaded the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review area and obstructed match officials, and US$15,000 for the use of laser devices by supporters during the match.
The Disciplinary Board also rejected a protest filed by Morocco against Senegal, in which the FRMF alleged violations of Articles 82 and 84 of AFCON regulations by the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF).
CAF said the complaint was not upheld.
CAF reiterated that the sanctions form part of its efforts to protect fair play, discipline, and the integrity of African football.
